This is one of the number of projects / programmes that I'm currently leading for the Highways England. The IAMIS programme is an ICT enabled business change programme.
But before we explore IAMIS, it is important to understand a bit about the Highways England (HE). The HE (previously a Government agency and now a company) manages one of the largest infrastructure assest in England, worth in excess of £119 billion. This means that it owns and operates wide ranging, complex physical assets, such as roads, bridges, drainage, traffic technology, lighting etc. As a result, HE is a 'data rich' organisation with terra bytes after terra bytes of data about its assets.
So what is the issue?
Given the extensive nature of the data, HE faces a significant problem in manage the data, due to:
- varied legacy asset systems
- none of these systems talks to each other
- data contained in them are duplicated, inconsistent, missing etc
So the solution I'm delivering is IAMIS.
Do visit my blog often and find out more information on this and many other fascinating projects.
